Ofcom NI: what about light touch regulation?
Folks, a Friday funny – Ofcom promote a film review contest for kids:
‘If you fancy yourself as a budding Jonathan Ross, Mark Kermode or Tom Paulin and you live in Northern Ireland, then we have the competition for you.
Ofcom has joined forces with the Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival to launch an interactive competition for budding young media critics across Northern Ireland.
Young people between the ages of 4 and 18 can submit reviews on any media form such as film, video games, television programmes or radio shows’
Sounds cool! Oh, but wait … there’s more:
‘The Director of Ofcom Northern Ireland, Denis Wolinski, said: “We hope that the young people who take part in the review will think about and analyse not just the content of the material they review but also understand the reasons why the particular material has been selected and how it might be regulated“.’ [emphasis added]
D’oh!
I’m sure that’s just what Coca-Cola had in mind … get the kids thinking about regulation!
