Ofcom watching as modern art
Folks, if you checked OfcomWatch last week all you saw was a white screen. Or was it white? I thought it was a bit green-tinged with subtle waves of amber. It was our commentary on media fragmentation and the collapse of the public sphere.
Anyway: Ofcom watching — our favourite indoor sport — continues…
More updates tomorrow, but I thought I would share one little nugget I read whilst doing my PhD research. It comes from December 2000 Communications white paper that ultimately resulted in the creation of Ofcom:
‘In the UK about 3.8% of consumer spending goes on telecommunications, television and other communications services — more than is spent on beer.’
Folks, I don’t make this stuff up.
Anyway, I wonder if the beer comparison has changed as consumer spend on media and communications services goes down. In that case, Ofcom would be forced to concede that beer was more important than PSB!
