Church supports Ofcom’s PSB Review: Willingness to Pray for PSB
I thought it was interesting that the Church of England submitted a response to the Ofcom PSB Review. It makes sense if you think about it: (i) the Church has been in the interactive media business for thousands of years and (ii) the oldest licence fee in the world is compulsory tithing. The Church probably did not appreciate the Beeb muscling in on its turf in the 1920s.
Anyway, you can see the Church’s response here.
So what do they have to say? Well, it looks like the Church support Ofcom’s basic argument in the PSB Review:
‘The BBC should not be left to be the sole provider of public service television given the importance of competition to maintaining the quality of programmes and Ofcom’s research finding that the public appreciates many providers.’
The Church continues:
‘Funding for public service television content needs to take account of future funding needs for Channel 4 but should explore the possibility that Channel 4 could find new and innovative solutions itself.’
So, I’m not quite sure, but I think this means God also believes that Andy Duncan should be sacked.
