Ofcom’s Broadcast Bulletin — the wackiness continues…
Ofcom today released its 100th Broadcast Bulletin. Every time you reach a milestone like the 100th, the 1000th, etc., you should either celebrate by popping the cork on some bubbly, or … shake your head in amusement and wonder what’s the point…
The Bulletin — nine-tenths bullsh-t and one-tenth selected facts all 27 pages of it – is here. Some nuggets:
‘Dirty Cows is a reality show in which city girls compete to be a young farmer’s date.Seven viewers complained about the use of the word “f-cking†on a number of occasions in this pre-watershed programme.’Â

‘UK’s Toughest Jobs is a reality programme that follows unemployed youths who agree to take on demanding jobs in a variety of industries. This episode featured three young people who worked in the airline salvage business. A viewer, who was watching with his young son, objected to the inclusion of offensive language (“f-ckâ€, “f-ckingâ€, “sh-t†and “bollocksâ€) at a time when he did not expect to encounter such language.’Â
* * *
‘Rich Kids’ Cattle Drive is a reality programme that features the children of celebrities working on a Colorado cattle ranch. A viewer objected to the repeated broadcast of offensive language (“f-ck†and “f-ckingâ€) at a time that was unsuitable.’Â

Rest easy, Britannia the global war on the f-word continues…

Only got ourselves to blame regarding the “F” word in my opinion, media is currently the strongest form of peer pressure to which we all are susceptible - the more it is repeated by actors, journalists and writers alike - the more it will be used and generally accepted behaviour within society, and thus regurgitated onto the screens through reality shows.
I can’t feeling a little chicken and egg about it all though - what happened first? Did people start using the “F” word and then media copied thus proliferating the whole cycle of bad language out there - or was it the other way around?
I’m thirtysomething and manage quite happily without feeling the need for profanity beginning with the letter “F” word….oh bugger….I think I mispelled profanity….o.O
