2008 already? Anyone at Ofcom back at work???
Folks, the new year has started and it’s time again to start thinking about everyone’s favourite topic: media and communications policy. Here are some good looking events for January and February:
– 17 January 2008; The Oxford Media Convention. Expensive, but probably the best ticket around. Last year was particularly fun: Watching Andy Duncan simultaneously grovel over Celebrity Big Brother and beg for public money was certainly entertaining.
Whenever I look at an event as big as this, I like to consider what is not on the agenda — more on that later…
– 24 January 2008; Super-prof Sonia Livingstone speaks at the LSE on ‘Children’s Media: More Harm Than Good?‘
See you there…
UPDATE — I forgot two other events:
– Anthony Lilley of Magic Lantern is the new Visiting Professor of Broadcast Media here at Oxford and will be giving a lecture series on 15, 22 and 29 January, and 5 February. Details here. Lilley claims he will deliver the world’s first user-generated academic lecture at Oxford.
I wonder if there will be a second one?
– Yours truly (Russ Taylor) will be giving a lecture at the LSE on February 4th. Tentative title: ‘U.K. Communications Policy: Shame Abuse and Failure’. I’m not sure if it is public, but if it is I will post details for the hundreds of you that I am sure will want to come.
Jan 7th 2008
Nothing on the LSE events page for the 4th February talk - further details would be interesting!
