The opaque Byron Review

Are you curious to read the responses to the Byron review of how video games and internet content affect what the DfES calls ‘children and young people’?

I was — but the consultation responses are nowhere to be found. [cue: Monday morning rant]

Any fan of transparency and openness in the policy making process would have to be disappointed with the Byron review. None of the responses that have been submitted so far have been posted by Dr. Byron — despite the fact that we are talking about the online universe. When Dr. Byron talks about people sharing their views on this subject, apparently she means a form of unidirectional sharing where she holds all the information. Will we have to wait until March 2008 to see what everyone contributed?

This Byron Review is decidedly offline. It’s not much of a discussion…

As a start Ofcom should publish its response. I checked the portion of Ofcom’s website where it should otherwise be published and found nothing.
