ICSTIS gets a new name …
I’m sure, like me, you have been waiting with baited breath for ICSTIS (Independent Committee for the Supervision of Standards of the Telephone Information Services) to announce their new name.
Wait no more… Drum roll please ….
…say hellow to PayPhonePlus …
Er, what? Apparently, “PhonepayPlus will give consumers a much better understanding of the help and advice we can provide.” I don’t know about you readers, but phonepayplus or PPP or p3 doesn’t help me understand what ICSTIS does any better than ICSTIS.

Agreed! Phonepayplus sounds like a prepaid phone card company…
I can think of a million better names… How about ‘Premium Calls Regulator’…?

I’m not sure people would be able to figure out what they do from a radical name suggestion such as that Russ …

PhonePayOverlord? PhonePayWatch?

Hmm … like the sound of PhonepayOverlord ! Tempted to write and find out if they spent money on coming up with the new name, or even - god forbid - went out and spoke to people in the street and asked them what they would think of when they heard or saw the name PhonepayPlus. Like you I would bet prepaid phone card would have been the top answer. Also, how much would you like to bet that even among those who eventually do know what it is, most will end up remembering it/calling it PayphonePlus????
P.S. Hello people at ICSTIS - if you’re reading this, please think again, or even provide evidence that people - real people - think this new name makes your job/remit clearer.
