New All party group for converged Communications

The Government has announced the creation of a new Parliamentary group, the All Party Parliamentary Communications Group (apComms). apComms is a merger of the All Party Parliamentary Internet Group (APIG), the All Party Parliamentary Mobile Group (apMobile) and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Communications. The merging of these groups is designed to reflect the rapid convergence of the telecommunications, Internet and mobile sectors and to better facilitate discussions between parliamentarians and those representing these industries. John Robertson MP,and Derek Wyatt MP have volunteered to jointly Chair the group and Phil Willis MP has volunteered to become Vice-Chair. Officers and members of the group will be formally announced following an AGM, which will take place before the launch on 23 July 2007.

I have been a big fan of APIG in the past, and hope this new merged group can be as vocal and as on point as they have been in the past on issues such as Spam, and DRM.
