Friday round-up
Well, folks, it’s the end of another week. Here is what’s buzzing around OfcomWatch HQ:
* The Future of News. I have heard a few times lately — cannot remember where — that Ofcom is about to release some work product on the future of news. Anyway, I’m told we can expect that document in the next few weeks. Â
* Ofcom’s Philip Graf can be heard on this podcast talking about the PSP. Graf calls the PSP idea ‘the start of a debate’ and stresses the plurality of supply in the public service sphere.  The interviewer does a pretty good job trying to link Ofcom’s deregulation of certain aspects of ITV’s operations with the sudden need for a PSP but I thought Graf handled the questions well.Â
* OfcomWatch friends Preiskel & Co have produced a document concerning the regulation of mobile TV gambling. The article is called EU Mobile TV Gambling: The Regulatory Maze, and is available here.
* Our most recent poll (over to the right) about Channel 4’s financial future has some pretty interesting results. It looks like most respondents simply don’t believe that a state-owned commercial broadcaster cannot make money into the future. Did LEK Consulting get it wrong? And if it cannot make money, roughly twice as many people would sack Andy Duncan rather than give Channel 4 a state subsidy. We’ll put another poll up soon. And remember: all of our polls are monitored and sanctioned by the Belorussian Centre for Public Integrity.
~ Have a good weekend…
