TeleBusillis on Ofcom’s Digital Dividend Review…

Keith at TeleBusillis likes Ofcom’s approach on the DDR…I haven’t fully explored the document, but I must say I am initially disappointed with Ofcom’s decision. Concepts such as uncertainty and market distortion are important and it is right and proper for Ofcom to take them into account. But let’s face it — the U.K. television marketplace is already badly, badly distorted with government ownership and intervention — in almost all aspects of the sector. Choosing this one moment to pull back and cite the uncertainties of intervention seems odd to me.

And HDTV has a certain ‘duh’ factor. Look at sales of the HD sets. They are exploding. And the smart money (Murdoch, Cuban) is behind HD programming and delivery. It’s not just PSBs looking for a hand-out…

But, I’m still open-minded…
