Critical week at Ofcom
This week, there will be interviews for the post of Ofcom Chief Executive. The executive search process to appoint Stephen Carter’s successor began in June and has been led by Jan Hall of JCA Group.
The interview panel will comprise Ofcom Chairman David Currie, Ofcom Deputy Chairman Philip Graf and Ofcom Board member Millie Banerjee plus an independent assessor. The interviews of these shortlisted candidates should be completed by the end of the week. A recommendation will then be made to the Ofcom Board next Tuesday. The Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport will need to sign off the appointment but, within a couple of weeks, we could know the name of the new Chief Executive.
It is an open secret that there are three strong internal candidates: Ed Richards, Kip Meek and Sean Williams. But there are some strong external candidates on the shortlist as well. Meanwhile Stephen Carter - who will be a tough act to follow - was given his official farewell do at Riverside House last Thursday evening. He is currently serving his garden leave and in March will be free to take on a new position.
