Ofcom consults on Business Radio regulatory reform
Ofcom yesterday issued this consultation document, intended to steer the future of Business Radio in a more deregulatory (and administratively efficient) direction. Responses are due by Sept 15th.
What is Business Radio? Basically the term covers most private uses of radio spectrum in the ordinary course of business for taxis and similar entities such as water company technicians. It is a huge part of any regulated spectrum porfolio, but not one that gets much attention because the networks are typically private. But this does not mean it’s unimportant - the types of entities that use this spectrum often use it in radio networks that are critical to their companies’ daily operations.
So, because all of society benefits indirectly from the optimal use of Business Radio systems, it’s important that Ofcom treat the urgently needed reforms in this sector as a high-priority task.
