Ofcomwatch talks to John Redwood about regulation, Ofcom and the BBC
Ofcomwatch recently interviewed the Rt. Hon. John Redwood, MP, asking him for his views on the government’s approach to regulation, Ofcom and the BBC.
Under Michael Howard’s leadership of the Conservative Party, Redwood was a front bench spokesman as Shadow Secretary of State for Deregulation, and aspects of this role have been subsumed into his position as Chairman of the Conservative Party’s policy review into Economic Competitiveness.
Redwood pointed out that he is not yet able to give views which could be associated with the review – although he does believe that the review will find a significant number of areas where the party, if in government, could look to deregulate.
In a broad range of questioning, we asked John Redwood about the on-going Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill, the future of Ofcom, BBC political bias and the impact of Brussels. This interview continues to build on our recent pieces relating to the Conservative Party, its future direction and its approach to media and communications regulation and policy.
Redwood is not without his critics. But we found him to be something of breath of fresh air on these issues, with clear insight, unique and valuable experience, and a genuine desire to free UK business from unnecessary regulatory burdens.
