Ofcom aimed to offer ’something different’ in Plymouth

After coming under criticism last week for awarding a radio licence to Diamond FM in Plymouth, due to claims that there is no local support for the service - Ofcom have obviously had someone working over the weekend in order to publish their reasons for the award. The rationale is here.

I know it sounds like a contradiction in terms but Ofcom actually say -

‘…classic rock was regarded by the potential audience as a genre that would…offer something different in terms of local commercial radio provision.’

Just a suggestion but it might have been more informative for Ofcom to outline what was not appropriate about the other bidders (all local) rather than what was right about Diamond.
