The EC Television Without Frontiers embarrassment continues…
My reaction to Roger’s post below on Viviane Reding’s counter-attack on critics of the proposed Television Without Frontiers (TWF) revisions:
She reportedly says: ‘I have no intention to “regulate the Internet”!’
* First, that statement is demonstrably false.
* Second, she mentions two unequivocal goods to justify regulation of the internet: fighting (i) child pornography and (ii) racial hatred. Fine. But the proposed TWF revisions regulate far more conduct than is necessary to accomplish those two laudable goals.
* Finally, as I’ve said before — this entire exercise seems like instinctive over-regulation, contrary to the spirit of the Lisbon agenda and recent attempts at ‘better regulation’.
