ITV to report worst ever monthly viewing figures

ITV is set to record the worst-ever viewing figures for its main channel this month, potentially putting its advertising revenues under pressure, the Mail on Sunday reported today.

The paper reported that the figures, compiled by the Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board (BARB), will show that flagship channel ITV 1 had an audience share of 19.45% in August, below the previous record low of 19.6% in August last year.

The decline in audience share could weigh on ITV’s advertising income, as the CRR agreement made between the broadcaster and its advertisers to secure the Granada/Carlton merger allows them to block any price rises if the audience for ITV 1 shrinks.

BARB has refused to confirm whether the figures quoted by the Mail on Sunday are accurate.
