GCap says will seek judicial review if Ofcom creates new digital radio licences
In the wake of Stephen Carter’s speech at the Radio Festival in Edinburgh radio group GCap Media PLC said it will seek a judicial review if Ofcom creates new national licences for digital radio.
GCap say that when GWR took a stake in Digital One with NTL in 1999 it was on the assurance that it would be the only commercial national licence holder for digital radio. GCap was formed through a merger of Capital Radio and GWR last year and holds GWR’s former licences.
In a consultation paper on the future of UK radio last December Ofcom said it will seek views from industry and the public over likely demand for new digital radio national licences. Ofcom said it will bear in mind Digital One’s investment in digital radio when deciding whether to allocate new licences.
