Friday Round-up…
* Ofcom announced that U.S.-U.K. telecoms lawyer Stephanie Liston joined as a non-executive director. Liston is a partner at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr… and on the board at ECTA (wonder what BT thinks about that?). Liston is also the author of: OFCOM-The Perfect Dish or a Recipe for Disaster? (14 Entertainment Law Review 19, 2003). Haven’t read that one yet… beach reading?
* Ofcom continue to improve its website, this time by putting some more power under the hood. A lot more power. Check it out. The delays between page loads are now basically non-existent.
* Meanwhile the U.S. public broadcaster, PBS, is mastering the art of overstatement…
* BT’s Sir Christopher Bland (two days ago) on the proposed BT settlement with Ofcom:
The solution is based on proposals BT made to Ofcom and which Ofcom has now accepted subject to formal consultation. It has been a tough journey but the outcome is the right one regulation where it is needed: and de-regulation where it is not.
Interesting way of putting it…
