Edmonds steps down from Ofcom Board

Ofcom today announced that David Edmonds will leave the Ofcom Board early in the New Year.

Mr Edmonds is one of six Non-Executive Members of the Ofcom Board. He was previously the Director General of Telecommunications at Oftel (one of the five previous regulators whose duties were assumed by Ofcom on 29 December 2003), a position he took up in 1998.

He is leaving, at his own request, before the end of his three year term (which expires in September 2005) in order to develop other interests.

The Chairman of Ofcom, Lord Currie of Marylebone, said: “David has made a significant contribution to the sector through some of its most formative years. He played an important role as an advocate of the establishment of a new converged regulator, Ofcom, and as a founding Board Member helped to bring this into existence. We wish him well for the future.”

Question of the day - Is this a surprise?
