The Business - Ofcom to launch new round of 3G licences
The Business newspaper reported yesterday that…
“Ofcom is to announce a second round of 3G licence auctions with the disposal of 13 separate parts of the radio spectrum. The new bidders, expected to include BT and Virgin, will be able to offer cheaper 3G services than existing operators such as Vodafone and Hutchison.”
The newspaper reports that Ofcom will in the next few weeks release a document, entitled ‘Spectrum Framework Review: Implementation Plan’ detailing how the new assignment and allocation will proceed. It is believed that the licences will be issued in the 2,500-2,690 megahertz range - although Ofcom may have some wrangling to do yet with European counterparts in CEPT.
