Foster - 2012 - Does Ofcom Set DCMS Policy?
Following Ofcom’s effective announcement that analogue television signals will be switched off by 2012, Don Foster MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Culture, Media and Sport Secretary has today written to Secretary of State, Tessa Jowell, demanding to know why she left such a crucial policy announcement to an independent regulator.
Commenting, Don Foster said:
“Without a firm timetable and strong leadership, digital switchover could leave one in five people unable to watch television.
“After five years of dithering, the news that the Government has left the announcement of a switchover deadline to an independent regulator is deeply worrying.
“Indecision undermined the original Government deadline of 2010. Now it’s essential that the Secretary of State announces unequivocally whether she stands by this new deadline and how she intends to achieve it.”
