Carter Says BBC Should Sell Off Its Sound Archive
Ofcom chief executive Stephen Carter suggested at a SMF forum event yesterday that the BBC sell programmes to commercial stations “to enhance their offering to the listening public”.
He asked: “Would non-discriminatory, non-exclusive access - for a fair payment - to the BBC sound archive allow commercial services to enhance their offering to the listening public?
“And, crucially, [would it] do so without damaging the BBC’s ability and commitment to offer a strong digital radio service proposition?”
“There is room for the same archive programming on both commercial and public service channels”
I think this is a cracking idea that would really see the BBC ‘building public value’. Top stuff Stephen.

And in English???? Like most things Carter says it’s complete hogwash that the most people, including those at Ofcom don’t understand
