Broadband and DTV On The Rise
Ofcom’s latest figures for broadband and DTV takeup shows that the UK has 4 million broadband users, with 40,000 new connections every week.
In its latest research on the digital TV and broadband markets, Ofcom found a decline in the use of narrowband, as consumers upgrade to broadband. 67% of adults connect to the Internet at home using narrowband, down from 73% in November 2003.
53% of UK adults now have internet access at home, up from 50% in November 2003, while 25% of these adults now connect to the Internet using broadband, totalling more than 3.9 million connections.
Meanwhile, Ofcom found that digital TV penetration was estimated to have increased to 53% of UK households at the end of March, up from 50% from the previous quarter. This represents an additional 710,000 households, bringing the total to more than 13 million.

Eveyone knows it’s up-up-and-away. But the challenge we are finding is getting data on those who cannot get ‘broadband in a boradband activated area’. I have tried to find research on this area for the UK and it seems a waste of time. Residents and businesses alike are left to challenge companies like BT on there own without some regulation to put pressure on telecommunication companies to provide inclusion to such areas. Can anyone find this kind of data?
