Oh, that a regulator’s reach should exceed its grasp…

Mike Butcher at m-bites (one of our recommended links) alerted OfcomWatch to this interesting article on whether PVR/iTV technology will permit advertisers to evade Ofcom’s regulation of advertising.

Answer: Yes, it will. Or, yes it likely will. Or, yes it will, but that’s not a problem. Or, yes it will unless Ofcom is more agile.

This is an area that OfcomWatch is keenly interested in: How well or poorly-positioned is Ofcom to marry the traditional goals of a regulator with the rapidly changing media and communications environment? Luke squarely addressed these issues in his Feb 20th post (’Looking to the future from the beginning’), basically arguing that the new regulatory scheme is in danger of becoming old school from the very beginning.
