Ofcom Launch Fixed-Line Mis-Selling Consultation

Ofcom Launch Fixed-Line Mis-Selling Consultation

Ofcom is seeking views on the effectiveness of current safeguards designed to protect consumers from the mis-selling of fixed-line telecoms services.

With competing services offered to customers via a number of different marketing channels, including direct mail, telesales, doorstep selling and selling in public places, the regulator sees the potential for abuse - mis-selling.

Ofcom has defined the term mis-selling as, ‘a range of sales and marketing activities which are not fully transparent and / or are intended to mislead and therefore work against customers’ interests. In particular mis-selling includes so-called slamming, where consumers are switched from one supplier to another without their knowledge and consent.’

The closing date for responses is 3 June 2004.
