Waller Throws A Wobbly

The Times’ Martin Waller seems all miffed. In tomorrow’s Times he writes:

“DOES the new media regulator know anything at all about how the media works? Apparently not, because this paper rang Ofcom on Tuesday night to ask if it was true that Luke Johnson was to be the new chairman of Channel 4.

After the usual well have to get back to you nonsense, the regulator rushed out a quick statement to all, confirming the fact, which had been due to be announced yesterday. This was apparently to ensure that their friends elsewhere in the media were not embarrassed by our exclusive and, ethically, is about as low as you can get in this business.

Ofcom is less than a month into its span, but the omens are not good.”

Was Waller the source of the Penny Hughes for C4 chair rumours? Afterall it was the Times who broke that exclusive too!
