DMGT Reckons On Easy Ride From Ofcom
Telegraph reports the Daily Mail & General Trust is looking to scoop up the blighted Telegraph Group. DMGT believes it would have a “reasonable chance” of gaining approval for a potential deal from the Competition Commission and media regulator Ofcom.
DMGT have no doubt spoken with their lobbyists Lexington Communications to assess the difficulty of getting a green light. Lexington represented Granada PLC during the Competition Commission’s recent assessment and subsequent recommendation for a Carlton/Granada merger. Of course having a lobbyist who was working simultaneously with the ITC must have been a help on that front.
On this point, it will be interesting to see who gets a share of Ofcom’s Public Affairs work. There is a danger here that the regulator becomes less ‘reach out’ and more ‘reach in’!
