Ofcom — Not yet fully powerful
Ofcom — Not yet fully powerful
Luke alerted me that Ofcom now has an official countdown on its website which tracks how many days are left until “Ofcom is vested with full powers on 29 December 2003.” 97 days as of today.
Naturally, I double-checked their calculations. Ofcom is clearly going by the age-old rule, ’start the countdown the day after the current day’ because, as everyone knows, you don’t count the day on which you have already awakened. I fully approve of this methodology and say to those insisting on a 98-day message: “Stop living in the past!”
I’ve already received several emails today from concerned readers asking why Ofcom Watch does not have a similar countdown timer. Duh! We are already vested with our full powers. I was thinking of having a timer to countdown the days it will take for ‘3′ ~ Hutchison Whampoa, DoCoMo and KPN to flame-out, but that may happen sooner than everyone thinks.
Anyway, Luke and I are planning on being there, on December 29th, at the stroke of midnight, to raise our glasses in a toast to Stephen Carter. That raises an issue I’ve been thinking about lately…Celebrities. We have had Celebrity CEOs and Celebrity DIY experts, and even Celebrity Newlyweds, etc. Now, I’ve just coined (and hereby claim ownership of) a new term — the ‘Celebrity Regulator’. I think Stephen Carter actually has a great chance of being the UK’s first Celebrity Regulator. The U.S. already has one — he’s a tough mofo.
